....there was also great psycological insight into the subjects of his paintings - mostly intimate, yet highly expressive portraits of family and friends. I saw in his paintings an essence of humanity - love and grief, disappointment and aspiration, despair and joy, and foremost, a profound optimism, if tempered by life experience.

In terms of technique, it would be a mistake to view Sid's reverse painting on a transparent surface as a gimmick. Many of his paintings are on canvas and they, too, bear the same unmistakeable mark of the artist - control of color and line, rythm and texture, a keen eye for composition. This unususal reverse painting technique does create a kind of inner light, a transcendent, otherworldly luminescense just beyond the surface of the painting...
